Food and Drinks

From three course meals to café fare and good old fashioned kiwi takeaways; Cheviot has the culinary spectrum well covered. Making the most of the district’s magnificent farm produce, many of Cheviot’s eateries feature fresh lamb, beef and venison.

Amongst the many different food establishments in Cheviot, you’ll find excellent coffee, a great range of food, from homemade to gourmet, and the traditional meat pie! Take your pick!

Producing some of the country’s best cuts and award winning sausages is the local butchery, Harris Meats, which supplies restaurants and supermarkets throughout Canterbury. Its flagship butchery is on Cheviot’s main street, and a popular stop for passing traffic and locals.

There are two boutique vineyards making the most of the districts dry summers and ideal soils.

    The Magpies Rest Café

    The Magpies Rest Café

The Magpies Rest Café is a family business on the south side of Cheviot.  We sell "Vivace Ultimate Expresso Coffee" and hold a liquor on-license. Patrons can dine-in (steak, chicken, fish, salads and vegetables), or take-away (hot or cold food, fish and chips, sandwiches, etc). We bake our own bread, scones, cakes and biscuits, and many items on our menu are made on the premises, country-style.

We also cater for small functions, and carry a range of souvenirs and basic grocery items. There is a large car-park for customers’ use.
